Frequently Asked Questions
The following information may help guide you through the most commonly asked questions regarding our community.
What is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC)?
A CCRC combines attractive residences with the security of a coordinated system of services designed to address the comfort, health, wellness, and developing needs of senior adults as they age. CCRCs provide a continuum of care, including residential living, assisted living, long-term care and skilled nursing.
Who Owns The Virginian?
Founded by The Temple Foundation in 1980, The Virginian began its long history as a simple not-for-profit CCRC, dedicated to providing housing and individualized care for older adults. The Virginian is recognized in the community for its standards of excellence, sound values, and quality of care of senior adults.
What are the apartments like at The Virginian?
The Virginian has spacious one and two bedroom Independent and Assisted Living apartments, along with semi-private and private rooms in the Health Care and Skilled Nursing Center.
Is there a waiting list?
For availability please contact a marketing representative at 703-277-7258 or 703-277-7240.
Are residents required to "buy into" the community?
No. The Virginian offers both a Monthly Rental and a Life Care Plan. The Monthly Rental Plan offers the flexibility of a month-to-month fee and is available to persons applying for Independent or Assisted Living. When more care is needed, residents with the Monthly Rental Plan resubmit an updated application for approval into the next level of care. Under the Life Care Plan, our residents pay an "entrance fee." Unique to a CCRC, Life Care is a long-term health assurance plan. The Life Care Plan reduces monthly rental costs and provides other benefits across the care continuum. Please contact a marketing representative at 703-277-7258 for further information.
Can you tell me about the residents who live here?
All of our residents have their own unique story to tell and come from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences. While we love to engage our residents in the many activities offered here, the level of involvement and social engagement they choose to participate in at The Virginian is respected and is their own. Our community has an Association of Virginian Residents (AVR), run by the residents who meet regularly to discuss and convey new ideas to the staff to enhance quality of life.
What type of activities does The Virginian offer?
We offer a wide range of activities to our residents at all levels of care. On any given day, one could participate in our morning non-impact exercise class, sit in on a study group, learn about investing in our afternoon Investment Group, and attend an evening music or slide program. Computer classes, "Great Books" discussions, and bridge are also popular. Some of our residents enjoyed an exciting week-long cruise to the Caribbean last year and just returned from a cruise to New England and Canada in October. The activities for the coming week are outlined in our weekly newsletters. Please click on our News & Events page for more information about our busy activities calendar.
How often does The Virginian provide transportation?
We provide group transportation on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On Mondays and Wednesdays, we take our residents to local shopping centers; on Fridays, transportation is provided to major retail destinations. Additionally, we have contracted with a local limousine company who will let you ride in style to local destinations for a nominal fee. We now have a wheelchair accessible van for those residents needing to get to medical appointments.
