Meet the Team

Cathy Renkiewicz

PT, DPT, Director of Rehabilitation

Cathy earned her BS in Physical Therapy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978 and her DPT from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2011. She has practiced in acute care, rehabilitation hospitals, and outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine clinics. As a clinical director, Cathy developed programs in breast cancer and vestibular/balance rehabilitation as well as sports screenings, and aquatic therapy. She is a member of the Geriatric, Orthopedic, and Health Policy and Administration sections of the APTA. She is an APTA certified clinical instructor and is direct access certified. She and has been Director of Rehabilitation at The Virginian since 1997.

Lisa Rabinowitz

PT, MHA, Assistant Director of Rehabilitation

Lisa received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1983. She also completed a Master’s degree in Health Administration at Pitt in 1988. Her experience ranges from acute care to home health. However, she enjoys working with older adults the most, and thus has focused her continuing education and practice in recent years on Geriatrics. She has worked at The Virginian for 9 years. Recently, Lisa attended training to be a credentialed clinical instructor by the APTA. She enjoys educating Physical Therapy students in our geriatric rehabilitation environment.

Nate Pendell

MOTR/L, Lead OT

Nate earned his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois in 2002. He worked for two years in the research department at the University of Florida in the Occupational Therapy Department. Afterwards, he entered the Occupational Therapy program, receiving his Master’s degree in 2006. His clinical experience includes out-patient orthopedics, hand therapy, and geriatrics.

Matt McKeon

M.S. CCC-SLP

Matt earned his Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from Duquesne University in 2004. Matt has worked in skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, ENT offices, private practice, home care, and as a research assistant. Matt’s clinical experience includes collaborating with Otolaryngologists and voice scientists researching, evaluating, and treating voice disorders, with emphasis on the aging voice. Matt is a certified provider of Vital-Stim and Lee Silverman Voice Treatment program. Matt is available to serve as a community resource for Voice, Swallowing, Speech, and Language disorders.

Lorraine Fischer

PT

Lorraine obtained her BSc in Physiotherapy from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, in 1983. She initially worked in Ottawa, Ontario, and Montreal, Quebec as a staff therapist, gaining experience in acute care treatment in several hospitals and inpatient rehabilitation settings, with a special interest in treating hemophiliac patients and children. Lorraine relocated to the Wash., DC area in 1989, and initially worked as a home care Physical Therapist here, gaining experience in a variety of patient populations. She sought employment at The Virginian after hearing many of her homecare patients speaking highly of their care as inpatients here. Lorraine has worked at The Virginian since Feb. 2006.

Cynthia LaJuene

OTR

Cindi graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy. Her years of experience include 6 years of inpatient rehab at the Burn unit in Milwaukee, WI. After moving to VA she has worked in a variety of settings; most recently with Pediatrics, early intervention, NICU and DC charter schools, Adult and geriatric population. She has been an employee at The Virginian for 3 years and has continued education with home modification design, spinal cord research and teaching and WC positioning.
